Joseph De Martini

My interest in Joseph De Martini can be traced back to Frances Kornbluth, who knew him on Monhegan Island. Almost a decade after Frances' passing, I found myself wanting to learn more about Joe's life and work, but very little had been written about him to date. This led me to embark on years of research, including archival investigations, interviews with those who knew him, and ultimately writing a monograph. Paul Resika, a longtime admirer of Joe's work, wrote the foreword and the manuscript is now being prepared for publication.

While writing the monograph, I worked closely with Joe's family, who manage his estate. I helped organize his papers, coordinated the conservation and photography of his work, and created a website. The site design is inspired by Paul's 2009 painting titled De Martini.
